Great news from the ROK!!

Caroline's last night in Komdun. There is a new watering hole which as you can see from the picture specialises in quality beverages!!

The December chill has hit and I'm loving it!! Last time I wrote I had a bit of a moan but things have improved since then; and a fresh dump of snow on Saturday night transformed Seoul into a fairyland. I've never seen snow like this before and although it hasn't snowed since, it is still thick on the ground as the temperature hasn't got back into positive figures, and the locals tell me that it probably won't for a while.

Koreans are different in many ways but one impressive tallent is their accurate weather predictions. During summer after 2 weeks of torrential rain I asked a few people when it was likely to end? Six days was the unamamous response.. Not, two weeks or a week or so or a few days. No.. six days and sure enough the taps were turned off. Durning Autum Hyunmok was in a panic about my lack of a winter coat. Next weekend, I said, I'll go shopping, She'll be right! No, she insisted It'l get too cold before that! sure enough a day or two later and wisely with a new coat the temp plummeted. A few other changes have been predicted and I can honestly say I haven't experienced "true four seasons" until I came here. The summers Hotttt!! the springs pleasant, Autum's an obvious cool change with different coloured leaves everywhere. Winter's just started and already it's snowed. The ice is thick on the ground which makes even walking around a dodgy excercise. I've hit the pavement once already. I' must admit it was quite graceful and thankfully at 11ish at night no-one saw!
These shots are from my rooftop on Sunday. I haven't been anywhere exciting for a while which is a bit of a bummer but I've needed to recharge the batteries a bit lately and the cold weather is a good enough excuse for bears to hibernate so who am I to argue!

I won't have to worry about the weather soon as i'm jetsetting back to Tas on the 18th for a 5 day jaunt for Jake's wedding. Cant wait to see every one and weddings are generally the best party opportunity I know.

Between now and then I have a long weekend for christmas which i'll be spending on a snowy slope somewhere with Jenna, Cat and Emily which I can't wait for if we ever get organised!!! WHERE ARE YOU CAROLINE!!! Hopefully we'll get a day or two snowboarding. Never done it but i'm sure there will be a hot tub or a sauna somewhere closeby to wear away any aches and pains I incur. Then I have our schools winter break (found out a week ago.....mmmm) from the 27th to the 3rd of Jan. I have no plans as yet and as I'll be saving my pennies for the trip back to oz later in the month I reckon I'll just jump on a train down to Busan as i'm yet to visit there. Other than Jeju Island which is further south that will just about cross all the places off the list in Korea I wanted to see.

Koreans don't celebrate Christmas to the extent we do however it still warrants a day off. Their main holiday is Chusok in September which was a non event for me as everything just shut up shop for four days. Having said that, I will be playing a very jolly St Nick for the kids on Friday and later that night i'm off to Wendy and Rob's for egg nog (which i've heard of but never seen or tried) and Christmas revelry, as I mentioned before i'll spend Christmas day with three lovely ladies so don't feel tooooo sorry for me!

Merry Christmas to all fellow cyber buddies, have fun, stay safe and i'll see you in the new year!

**NEWS FLASH** Sadly the Mayor of Hobart won't be on the docks over the newyears period due to having something else to do that day. Sqark, Swanky, Corky, Greencock, Boy,Witch, Weasel (you've still got my books!!-hope you enjoyed:)) will be without their local member in the Crown tent (remind the Squark where it is as I doubt he'd remember), however he will be in spirits somewhere....Happy New Year and remember.. "9th Island Pinot Noir is poisonous if consumed in large enough quantities!!!"
