Its Sunday and I've just finished one of Emo's spectacular smorgasboard's. This weekend was very very lazy with lots of tv, sleep and food consumed. I planned to do many things but I had a severe case of the cbf's and didn't end up doing anything much. This is fine as i've been going hammer and tong since my arrival and mentally I needed to veg out a bit. Which is fine.
I've still been reasonably entertained by the comings and goings at Ooudi house. On Friday night I walked up Peltobong and Sarabong, the two volcanic hills next to my house with Nana (surrogate sister) who has quit her job editing tourist guide books to go back studying in June, so at the moment she has lots of time off. The first thing she did upon leaving her job was to get eyelid surgery to open her eyes a little more. This is very common over here with the majority of females sporting, what they call as double eyelids. I suppose it does make her a little more attractive and if it boosts her confidence its a good thing.
Saturday I was chaperoned to the local dentist by Nana for a root canal job which cost the princely sum of $20.00US. But the anesthetic as usual knocked me for six and I have since been very lethargic. I'm booked in again on Tuesday night for some more treatment on other teeth, and it seems the long overdue job of fixing up my failing dentures is going to finally take place.
Emo's becoming increasingly aware that I have made very little progress learning Hungul language and script and in true un-diplomatic Korean tones she tells me so repeatedly. This is a little frustrating as getting the mental headspace to learn a new language so far hasn't happened and although I am philosophic that the time will come it can't be too soon for Emo. The reason being is very positive however as she treats me like a son and her and the entire family's help and friendship has been overwhelming. The least I could do in return is learn the lingo!!
So as another week finishes and a new one begins I can look forward to another dental visit and as next Friday is field trip day I'm going on a mountain climb up Halla-san with the third grade students, which should be great as Halla-san is the main thing people come to Jeju to see.
Last week the vibe at Sehwa had improved somewhat and we had our photo's taken for the yearbook and next week should be good so all's well. I caught up with the family on my new mobile phone( another thing the family here has helped me with) this past week and it was great to hear everyones voice again.
